Lamingtons, or Čupavci, as they are known in Croatia, are so popular among gourmets that the Australians declared 21 July the National Lamington Day. Legend has it that this tasty treat was born in the 19th century, when aristocrat Mary Lamington asked for cake, and her chef, having no other ingredients, used the sponge from another cake, dipping it into chocolate and decorating it with shredded coconut.
